Week 29 Update

5th Grade Weekly Update
Dear Parents,
The students have worked very hard this month on their International Expo projects and I was very proud of their ability to keep both parents and students entertained with their activities and presentations on Monday. Thank you to the parents who attended our in-class presentations on Tuesday morning. Here is what else we got up to this week.       
What we learned this week
Maths: Topic 14 Measurement Units, Time, and Temperature
Literacy: Historical Fiction Writing/Katie’s Trunk/Capitalization and Punctuation Unit Wrap Up and test.
Science: Chapter 5 – The Water Cycle
Social Studies: Chapter 12 The Allies Win The War Chapter Wrap Up and Test.

Government Award

This month the annual Hsinchu government Outstanding Student Awards were given to one child from each of our elementary school classes. Students are selected by their schools based on several criteria including character, extra-curricular involvement and academics. Well done, Yuka Ishida!

New Kind of Cloud Added to the Cloud Atlas

Look! Up in the sky! It's a new kind of cloud

But what you're looking at is a unique and breathtaking meteorological phenomenon. And today, World Meteorological Day, it's being officially recognized: asperitas cloud. This is how the new edition of the International Cloud Atlas describes it, in almost poetic form: "Asperitas is characterized by localized waves in the cloud base, either smooth or dappled with smaller features, sometimes descending into sharp points, as if viewing a roughened sea surface from below."

Dear Parents,
March, along with our third quarter of the school year, is nearing an end. This can only mean that we’re ending a busy month with one of our favourite activities of the year, the International Expo.  Please be aware that we will have our games and activities along with displays in the auditorium on Monday morning. The students will also be presenting their projects in class on Tuesday morning. See below for the times of these two events.
