5^th Grade Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year and welcome back! The first school week of 2017 has been a short one. Here is what we did.  

What we learned this week

Maths: Topic 7 Test Corrections/Cumulative Test Topics 1 - 8

Literacy: Yang the Second and Her Secret Admirers

Science: Chapter 2 – Forces and Motion Final Experiment

Social Studies: Ch. 7 World War I

Announcements:

Field Trip:

We will be visiting the China University of Science and Technology on Wednesday, January 11^th. This trip ties in with Chapter 6 in our Social Studies curriculum in which we learned about technological advances in the 20^th Century that include the invention and popularization of the airplane. The bus will depart at 8:30am so it is important that all students arrive on time at 8:20 next Wednesday.

We will return to school at 11:30am and continue with our classes as normal.

Student of the Week:

Due to the short two-day week, there is no Student of the Week this week.

Dojo Masters:

Thanks for all the hard work this week. Due to the short week, we will only start naming Dojo Masters again next week. For this week, as I explained, all of your names will go into the Dojo Draw Cup.

Reminders

1. Our Fun Day was postponed to Wednesday, January 18^th. Weather permitting; we will hold the event on this date.
2. Please be aware that the first semester ends on January 25. Your child will receive his/her Report Card on this date. The Lunar New Year holiday will follow and school will reopen on Thursday, February 2.
